Quarterly Vol. 11 No. 2 ___________________________________________________________April 2001______

"If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep." (I. Cor. 15:19,20)

Hello and Happy Easter! It is that time again to bring you our greetings and express thanks for your faithful partnership with us through prayer, giving and encouragement. We appreciate each of you very much!

Mission News

Although our goal of reaching lost people in Asia with the Gospel of Jesus Christ remains the same, things continue to change within the mission. We have seen more co-worker/friends leave Guam and they will be greatly missed. Our new Trans World Radio-Guam office has been completed. The new smaller
office is connected directly to the building which houses the five transmitters. The old office which was located about 18 miles from the transmitter site will eventually be sold. Although the staff size has been reduced, since all the staff now work together under one roof this means that there are more workers to share the on-air shift work. The result should be less "swing shifting" for Doug for which he is very thankful! The new digital audio system has been in place a year now and we are very pleased with how it is operating.

The following, taken from a TWR e-newsletter, pertains to our ministry from Guam:

TWR Receives First Letter Response from North Korea
Sometimes TWR staffers wonder about the effectiveness of programming in a particular region, especially when response from listeners is sparse or nonexistent. Possible reasons for lack of response are manifold: fear of persecution, cost of postage, illiteracy, etc. One such example of an area from where the ministry has never received a listener letter is North Korea. After years of broadcasting into this needy country, TWR just recently received its first ever letter. What follows is an excerpt from that correspondence: "Thank you so much for your sending radios and songbooks to us several times. Those are very helpful for our mission work and we use it well. Especially the quality of radios which you send this time is excellent, and it so good to study. As you know, we meet many dangerous things every time, however we are not depressed but are doing His work by faith." Please pray that the Lord will continue to open the door for more response from listeners in North Korea.

Some encouraging statistics from the Shortwave Bible School program--one of many programs we air over KTWR:

Year End Report-Shortwave Bible School
1114 letters received this year
25 reports of receiving salvation!
62 bibles sent
516 students enrolled

1886 students enrolled total since Nov. '95

Job Change

One family leaving Guam soon is the Fuller family. They will be greatly missed! Rich was working as Information Systems Administrator. Since the digital audio system is operating well with minimal maintenance, this has freed Doug up enough to step into the additional role in Information Systems. He will have lots of learning and challenges ahead and would appreciate your prayers!

Church News

Our church here on Guam is getting closer to beginning its building project. We continue to attend a weekly cell group where we have begun to study the book of James. We also greatly benefit from a rich time of personal and inter- cessory prayer there each week. Those of us who lead the youth work would appreciate prayer for the kids to grasp the spiritual truths and experience a life-changing relationship with Christ. The Prison Ministry which our church is heavily involved with has experienced a setback in that the Director had a heart attack on his way back to the States. It was determined that he and his wife will not return to Guam. Please pray that this very fruitful ministry would continue in their absence. The youth group we are involved with was started primarily as an offshoot of the Prison Ministry.

Home News

On the home front, we had a great visit with Doug's parents and his brother, David. The Lord blessed us with wonderful weather. They were all able to adjust well to the 15 hour time difference and so we were able to do a lot together: beach, boating, hiking, kite flying, shopping etc. When they left it took a while for Sarah to realize they weren't hiding in the house somewhere! We have lots of great memories and pictures galore to enjoy! Sarah is talking a lot so she had lots to chat about with Grammy, Grampy and Uncle David. Sarah is two years old now and we couldn't be more pleased with her development. Denise is doing some simple creative activities with her from a program called Before Five in a Row (www.fiveinarow.com). Sarah loves this since the activities are developed around books and she is crazy about books! It is not unusual for her to plop down in your lap with rather large stack of books and sit through them all.

Well that is our news for now. Until next time,
