Quarterly Vol 9 No. 2                                                                                           April 1999

Greetings from snowbound New England,

As we write to you today we are getting one last hard winter punch. Although this winter in Massachusetts started out fairly mild, it is ending cold and snowy. By the time you get this letter we should be back on warm, sunny Guam. Our departure date is set for April 12th. We praise God for the way He has worked at bringing in our support and providing for our needs. We have been greatly encouraged by the meetings we've had and the interest for mission work in Asia. The Lord has done far more than we had expected. Although we have enjoyed time with family and friends, we look forward to getting back to Guam and our work there.

By bringing in our support from unexpected sources God has made it clear that the time is right for us to return to Guam. While on furlough we participated in more than 65 meetings in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Hawaii and New York. If we did not get a chance to see you, we apologize and hope to stay in touch through email and parcel post.

Life has changed quite a bit for us since we last wrote to you. Sarah Marie Gregson was born at 2:41 a.m. on January 29th (in the middle of a snow storm). We have been enjoying getting to know each other as a family. Sarah likes to sleep more than she likes to eat. Feeding her has been the biggest challenge we have faced. Our families have fallen in love with Sarah and taking her away will be very difficult. We will do all we can to keep them updated so that they do not feel the loss so much.

Before we left for Guam, we were able to have Sarah dedicated at our home church (First Baptist Church of Duxbury). We were glad for this opportunity to publicly dedicate our daughter to the Lord.

The scripture shared was from 1 Samuel 1:27,28

"For this child I prayed; and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of him. Therefore also I have lent him to the Lord; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the Lord."

We prayed to God thanking Him for giving us a beautiful new life to enjoy. We released Sarah to God and asked God to give her a life that will grow in the knowledge of Him.

Back on Guam our responsibilities have changed somewhat during this term. In addition to the operational shifts at the shortwave station Doug will be in charge of implementing the changeover from the 20 year old analog audio system to digital. Denise, being a new mom, will be reevaluating her time and seeking the Lord's guidance as to what her involvement should be with the mission work.

As of March, the start of a new broadcast season, programming from Guam has expanded. We are excited to get back to work in order to have a part in getting God's Word out to even more people in Asia. We are also excited about using the new HC100 shortwave transmitter which will be primarily used to target China.

Would you pray for our personal needs as we return to our life and work on Guam?

1. Safety in travel

2. Adjustment to the time change (especially Sarah's sleeping and eating routine)

3. Resuming technical work responsibilities

4. Guidance for Denise regarding ministry involvement

5. Setting up our apartment to accommodate our expanded family

6. Acquiring good used appliances, and a vehicle that need replacing
