Quarterly Vol 9 No. 3                                                                                                           July 1999

Dear Friends,

Hafa Adai from Guam! Yes, we are back on sunny Guam and have settled back to our work here. Sarah was excellent on the long plane ride to Guam and is adjusting to her new island home. She just had her four month checkup and is developing very well. Sarah is basically a content baby and a good sleeper! She is a lot of fun! Everyone agrees she looks like her daddy.

Work update

Doug has been sorting out computer networking issues in order to lay down the groundwork for the changeover of our 25-year-old analog audio system to digital. Denise is doing some of the mission work she did previously at home by computer.

New Programs

We are excited about some recent program expansion that has taken place in our region:

Women of Hope

Project Hannah's Women of Hope program is being translated to various languages: Mandarin, Burmese, Korean, Khmer (for Cambodia), and Indonesian. The program began to air in Korean in April and in Burmese in July. Letters continue to be received in response to the program. An extensive prayer network for this project and for the women of the world continues to grow.

Pidgin

We receive a significant amount of letters from Papua New Guinea in response to our English programming. The following letter, however, expresses the need for programming in the local language:

"Living in a bush-thatched home on the shores of the island, your message of Jesus Christ has been a blessing to myself and the islanders. Almost every evening the islanders gathered around my house to listen to the powerful messages. Though most of the listeners are illiterate and uneducated, they hunger for the Word of God as I explain to them in Pidgin, our vernacular language. You have an audience of eager listeners."

We are happy to announce that in June we began to broadcast in the Pidgin language to the people in Papua New Guinea and the South Pacific. We are delighted that some members from one of our supporting churches (Faith Baptist Church of Kailua, Hawaii) were in Papua New Guinea on another missions project and were able to witness the start of the broadcast firsthand.

New Programs (cont'd)

Indonesia

Trans World Radio holds an annual banquet in Guam each year. The speaker this year was from Bali, Indonesia. Many of you know that Indonesia has been a country very much on our hearts since our visit there in 1997. It was so encouraging to see the commitment of this brother who writes our drama programs for that spiritually needy island. We are happy to report that we have increased our programming to Indonesia over the last year and there are plans for more expansion. Indonesia is the world's fourth most populous nation and has the largest number of Muslims of any other nation in the world.
