Denise accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior in 1979 while visiting a Bible study. This was Denise's first time to really hear and understand the gospel, having grown up going to church on and off but with no interest in spiritual things. While at the Bible study she realized that God was a close and personal God and that the Bible was God's Word to be followed. In college Denise was involved with Campus Crusade for Christ, where she learned more about her faith in Jesus Christ and God eventually called her to work in full-time ministry. Her favorite passage of Scripture is in Psalm 62:  "My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him.  He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God   he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him,  for God is our refuge.... One thing God has spoken, two things have I heard: that you, O God, are strong, and that you, O Lord, are loving. "

Previous Missions Experience

Swaziland - Staff with Campus Crusade for Christ from 1987-1993.

From 1987-1990, Denise worked to start up the Community Health Evangelism Program in Swaziland, Southern Africa. Through this health project, health and nutrition were taught side-by-side with spiritual teaching. This required learning the local language in order to teach rural women who could in turn teach others in their villages, often using pictures and stories.

After a furlough in 1990, Denise returned to Swaziland to work on the University of Swaziland campus, discipling the students there. The goal was to raise up national staff who could continue the ministry in Swaziland. Denise was involved in evangelism, leading various Bible studies, and other types of discipleship activities.

After her time in Africa, Denise worked as a nutritionist and the Van Director for Massachusett's first "WIC on Wheels" (mobile (WIC) Women Infant's and Children Program) before marrying Doug and moving to Guam.
