Purpose of our Children's Church
Program
What are the goals?
Mainly to help the kids gain some skills that
will help them participate in the larger worship service when they "graduate"
from children's church. I would like to offer these materials to others working
on a limited budget and with similar goals.
Considering the goal
stated above the topics of our units will be: Praise, Bible, Prayer,
Relating to the Church, Evangelism/Outreach.
I. PRAISE
THEME (Our church uses a mixture of Praise
songs and Hymns. This unit is focussed on hymns)
The Goal of this unit is to
help the students to gain an appreciation for praise and worship and gain some
skills to help them participate in the larger worship service more fully.
Skill Objectives:
*Students will begin to learn to find hymns in the hymnal by hymn number
*Students will become more
familiar with some common hymns
The main resource used for these lessons
is the book put out by Focus on the Family called Hymns
for a Kid's Heart (volume 1) by Bobbie
Wolgemuth. What a gem this book is! It gives the history of
the hymns listed below, and what is so encouraging for the kids is
that they learn that these hymn writers began their interest in the things
of God and in music, poetry or prayer at a very young age.

II.
GETTING TO KNOW YOUR BIBLE
The Goal of
this unit is to help the children to appreciate the importance of the Word
of God in their lives and to begin to find their way around the Bible.
Skill
Objectives :
*Children will memorize Matthew 4:4; Psalm
119:11; and Psalm 119:105
*Children will be able to locate several of
the more common books in the Bible
*Children will be able to name the books of
the New Testament in order
*Children will be able to name several
books in the Old Testament
*Children will be able to locate simple
verse references in the Bible
*Children will be able to name some of the
types of books in
the Bible i.e. Poetry, History, Gospels…

as she stick figures the main events and people in the Old and New Testaments

III. Prayer Unit
Unit
Goals:
*The children will have a better
understanding of what prayer is all about
*The children will develop their own personal prayer
life
Unit
Objectives:
*The children will learn to pray short
prayers in a group setting
*The children will memorize the Lord’s
Prayer
*The children will be able to name the
different types of prayer:
confession, thanksgiving, praise and supplication/requests (asking for
things for self or others)
*The children will begin a prayer journal
to enhance their personal prayer life

IV. Relating to the
Church
In this unit, we will be helping the children to
better understand and participate in church life. Topics include Giving/Stewardship, the Body, Respect, and The
Lord's Supper

Objectives:
