PRAISE THEME (Our
church uses a mixture of Praise songs and Hymns. This unit is focussed on
hymns)
The Goal of
this unit is to help the students to gain an appreciation for praise and worship
and gain some skills to help them participate in the larger worship service more
fully.
Skill Objectives:
Students will begin to learn to find hymns in the hymnal by hymn number
Students will become more
familiar with some common hymns
The main resource used for these lessons
is the book put out by Focus on the Family called Hymns
for a Kid's Heart (volume 1) by Bobbie Wolgemuth. What a gem this
book is! It gives the history of the hymns listed below, and what is
so encouraging for the kids is that they learn that these hymn writers
began their interest in the things of God and in music, poetry or prayer at
a very young age. Each chapter also has a devotion by Joni Eareckson
Tada. Because the hymns themselves and parts of the stories/devotions have
some difficult words, I recommend not only defining the suggested words in the
books but have added additional definitions to help with
comprehension.
